Cracking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is widely considered one of the most challenging feats globally. To secure a seat at a prestigious institution like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), students must excel amidst fierce competition, with lakhs of aspirants vying for top ranks. One remarkable story of success is that of Sarvesh Mehtani, a young man from Panchkula, Chandigarh, who achieved the number one rank in JEE Advanced in 2017.
For Sarvesh, the journey to the top was no easy task. Like many young people, he enjoyed spending time on social media, but he chose to distance himself from distractions when it came to preparing for the JEE. In an earlier interview after his achievement, Sarvesh shared how he would relax himself by watching cartoons, listening to music and playing badminton from the intense pressure of exam preparation.
Sarvesh Mehtani’s education
Sarvesh Mehtani, the son of Parvesh, an Income Tax department employee, and Raj Bala, who works in Haryana’s industrial department, has an impressive academic and professional journey. Scoring a perfect 10 CGPA in his 10th-grade board exams and 95.4% in his 12th, Sarvesh was a dedicated student, putting in five to six hours daily for studies, extending to eight to ten hours on holidays. His commitment paid off when he topped the JEE Advanced exam in 2017 with a remarkable score of 339.
Sarvesh went on to graduate from IIT Bombay in 2021 with a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering.
Where is Sarvesh Mehtani working now?
Currently, according to his LinkedIn profile, he works as a Quantitative Trader, developing high-frequency strategies for trading financial derivatives.
“I’m currently working as a Quantitative Trader developing high frequency strategies to trade financial derivatives. I am Computer Science and Engineering Graduate from IIT Bombay, India. I am interested in Machine Learning, Statistics and Mathematics (INMO Awardee),” reads his LinkedIn profile.
He even worked as a Research Engineer at Google India in May 2020. at Bangalore Urban district, Karnataka.
Over his academic career, Sarvesh has received several prestigious awards, including the Aditya Birla Fellowship from the Aditya Birla Group and the Indian National Chemistry Olympiad Award (INCHO) from the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.
