Roman Saini’s journey, from becoming a doctor at 20, to an IAS officer at 22, and then co-founding a Rs 26,000 crore ed-tech company, continues to inspire many individuals.
Among India’s toughest exams are the medical entrance and the UPSC Civil Services exams, both of which are known for their difficulty. It often takes people several years to clear these exams, and months or even years of hard work. Still many people are not able to clear it even when they cross 30 years of their life.
However, Roman Saini’s journey stands out as one that inspires many. He passed the AIIMS entrance exam at 16 and cleared the UPSC exam by 22. But later on left civil services and built crores of Rs business empire.
Roman Saini Became An IAS Officer At 22
Roman Saini cleared the medical entrance exam at the age of just 16 and got admission to AIIMS. By the age of 22, he had passed the UPSC exam and became an IAS officer. Roman Saini passed the UPSC exam at the age of 22, becoming one of the youngest IAS officers in India.
He was assigned to the Madhya Pradesh cadre, where he worked as an Assistant Collector. However, during his time in this role, he repeatedly questioned the education system and realized that the real issue lay in the education system itself. To address this problem, Roman Saini resigned from his position as Assistant Collector after just one year and eight months.
Beginning of Unacademy
After resigning from his IAS job, Roman Saini partnered with his friend Gaurav Munjal to lay the foundation for Unacademy, an ed-tech startup. Unacademy is an online platform that helps thousands of students prepare for some of the toughest exams in the world. Unacademy initially began in 2010 as a small YouTube channel. According to a report, Unacademy is now valued at around Rs 26,000 crore.
Unacademy became a revolutionary force in the education sector, especially, during the time of Covid-19. It offered a variety of courses, live classes, and mentorship programs. The platform preached to millions of students and became a good resource for exam preparation, skill development, and continuous learning.
