A native of Rajasthan’s Jaipur, Kanishak Kataria, graduated in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Bombay and quickly landed a high-paying job with Samsung in South Korea. Despite his huge paying salary, Kanishak’s real dream was to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

Inspired by his father, Sanwar Mal Verma, an IAS officer and Director of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department in Rajasthan, Kanishak decided to follow his true calling.

A native of Rajasthan, Kataria graduated from IIT Bombay with a degree in Computer Science. His career took off immediately, landing him a lucrative job with Samsung in South Korea. Despite his enviable position, Kanishak’s true calling lay elsewhere—he dreamed of becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

Earlier in 2017, Kanishak left his job and returned to Jaipur with a firm resolve to pass the challenging UPSC Civil Services Examination. What set his story apart was his decision to forgo coaching and rely entirely on self-study. With incredible dedication, Kanishak took the UPSC exam in 2019 and succeeded on his first attempt, achieving the All India Rank (AIR) 1.

Kanishak’s success was a moment of pride for his family, particularly for his father and his uncle, K.C. Verma, the Divisional Commissioner in Jaipur.

Kanishak Kataria belongs to the Scheduled Caste(SC) category. Speaking of his UPSC Civil Services Result, he successfully cleared the examination with mathematics as his optional subject. Kanishak Kataria scored 942 in written examination. Additionally, he scored 179 in personality test. Overall, he secured 1121 marks.
