It is an inspiring journey of a man who overcame academic setbacks, sold milk to help his family for livelihood and finally cracked UPSC exam to become an IPS officer. Today, he is serving as Superintendent of Police in West Bengal police.

Today, we will talk about Umesh Ganpat Khandbahale whose story resembles that of IPS officer Manoj Sharma. Khandbahale had failed in the 12th grade exam but his grit and resilience took him to the path of success. He cracked the 2015 UPSC exam.

Umesh Ganpat Khandbahale’s story has become an inspiration for Bengal students too as the police department showcased his journey to the board students.

Khandbahale is a native of Maharashtra’s Mahiravani. He failed in class 12th in 2003. He scored only 21 marks in English. He said that he later joined his father and started helping him in farming and dairy business.

After a gap of two years, he began his studies and cleared 12  exams in 2005. He later pursued BA, BEd and MA. He wanted to remove the 12 fail tag and it pushed him to appear for UPSC examination.

Khandbahale  shifted from Maharashtra to Delhi and prepared for the examination. He cleared the exam in his third attempt.
