Artika secured an impressive All India Rank(AIR) 4 in the 2015 UPSC Civil Services Examination, one of the toughest exams in the world.

Originally from Varanasi, Artika Shukla was a medical doctor before she made the bold decision to switch careers. At the time, she was pursuing her MD but chose to leave her medical studies to chase her dream of becoming an IAS officer. Her brother, Utkarsha Shukla, who passed the UPSC civil services exam in 2012 and currently works in the Indian Railway Transport Service, played a crucial role in her preparation. He provided her with valuable advice and shared his notes, which she used to prepare for the exam.

Artika’s preparation journey began in 2014, and she achieved success the very next year. Remarkably, she did so without formal coaching, relying on her discipline and her brother’s guidance. She completed her MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi and had previously attended St. John’s School in Varanasi. Her father, Brajesh Shukla, served as a secretary at the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

In 2015, during her IAS training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Artika met her future husband, Jasmit Singh, who had secured the third rank in the same IAS exam. They developed a bond during their training and got married in 2017. Tina Dabi, her close friend, and fellow IAS officer, attended their wedding.

Artika’s story, much like Tina Dabi’s, serves as an inspiration for many aspiring civil servants. Both women have shown immense grit and determination to achieve their goals. While Tina Dabi is currently serving in Rajasthan, Artika continues to make strides in her career as an IAS officer, proving that with the right mindset, any goal is achievable.
