Success Story: Hard work is the key to success, and determination is the fuel that keeps it burning. Every year, the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination to recruit candidates for the post of Indian Administrative Service(IAS), Indian Foreign Service(IFS), Indian Police Service(IPS), and various other posts. Over 10 lakh candidates appear for the examination annually, but only a few clear and subsequently appear for the various consecutive rounds.
While some aspirants struggle to clear the examination and exhaust the age limit, others are fortunate to succeed on their first attempt at a young age, around 22 or 23. Each aspirant’s journey is unique and comes with its own set of challenges and milestones. Today’s success story focuses on the inspiring journey of a candidate who cracked the UPSC exam at just 23 years old and became an IFS officer.
At just 23 years old, she serves as a notable example, showing that with determination, the right approach, and hard work, significant achievements are within reach.
Tamali Saha started her education in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, and later moved to Kolkata to pursue an undergraduate degree in zoology at Kolkata University. Throughout her college years, her commitment to succeeding in the UPSC exam remained steadfast.
In 2021, she successfully cleared the Indian Forest Service(IFS) and secured All India Rank(AIR) 94. She scored 612 marks out of 1400 in the written test and 195 marks out of 300 in the personality test, totaling 897 out of 1700 overall. She was allotted to the West Bengal cadre.
The competitive examination comprises two successive stages : (i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the screening & selection of candidates for Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination; and
(ii) Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates against the vacancies identified and reported for the Indian Forest Service Examination.
