Rohiqa Mistry’s journey to becoming one of India’s wealthiest women highlights the growing empowerment of women in the country.
Rohiqa Cyrus Mistry, the wife of the late Cyrus Mistry, has emerged as one of India’s wealthiest women following a series of personal and family tragedies. Cyrus Mistry, the younger son of construction tycoon Pallonji Mistry, tragically died in a car accident in September 2022 at the age of 54, just a few weeks after the passing of his father, Pallonji Mistry, in June 2022.
After the untimely death of her husband, Rohiqa Mistry inherited his stakes in the family’s business empire, including a significant share in Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. According to Forbes, Rohiqa Mistry is now the second-richest woman in India, with an estimated net worth of USD 9.3 billion (approximately ₹77,000 crore). As of 2023, she is one of only three women in India to have joined the billionaire club. The richest woman in the country remains Savitri Jindal, with a net worth of USD 17 billion.
Rohiqa Mistry Connection With Ratan Tata, Noel Tata
Rohiqa’s late husband, Cyrus Mistry, was a notable figure in Indian business. He served as the Chairman of Tata Sons from 2012 until his ousting in October 2016. He was appointed by the great industrialist Ratan Tata. Rohiqa is also connected to Noel Tata, as his wife Aloo Mistry is Cyrus Mistry’s sister. Despite Cyrus’s removal from the chairman position, the Mistry family retained an 18.4% stake in Tata Sons through the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, making them one of the largest shareholders in the Tata conglomerate. This stake remains the family’s most valuable asset.
The relationship between the Mistry family and Tata Sons became strained following Cyrus’s dismissal, leading to legal battles and disputes over control of the company. Despite these challenges, the Mistry family has maintained its significant influence within the Tata Group.
