Nadia Chauhan, Joint Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer of Parle Agro, has reshaped one of India’s most iconic FMCG companies. Under her visionary leadership, the company scaled its revenues from Rs 300 crore to an astounding Rs 8,000 crore, showcasing her innovative strategies and bold decision-making.
Parle Group History
Founded in 1929 by Mohanlal Chauhan, the Parle Group started as a confectionery company before venturing into beverages in 1959 under Jayantilal Chauhan. Over the years, the group introduced iconic brands like Limca, Maaza, Gold Spot, and Thums Up, which were later sold to Coca-Cola in 1990.
Despite this, Parle Agro continued its journey of innovation, launching Frooti in 1985, Appy in 1986, and Bailley Packaged Water in 1993. These products, especially Frooti and Bailley, became household names and remain market leaders to this day.
Nadia Chauhan Early Life
Born in California and raised in Mumbai, Nadia Chauhan grew up immersed in the family business. She completed her education at HR College and spent her formative years learning the ropes at Parle Agro’s headquarters. Groomed for leadership from a young age, Nadia officially joined the company at just 17 years old in 2003.
Her hands-on experience with her father gave her a deep understanding of the business, setting the foundation for her future leadership.
Parle Agro’s Success Story
Nadia quickly left her mark by making bold and innovative decisions that elevated the company’s identity and broadened its appeal. She redefined the marketing and branding of products like Frooti and Bailley, ensuring their enduring popularity in competitive markets. Under her leadership, Bailley became the dominant player in the packaged drinking water sector, achieving annual revenues exceeding Rs 1,000 crore.
Parle Agro Profit Declines
Parle Agro, which operates in the beverage market with brands such as Frooti, Appy, SMOODH and Bailley, has reported a 12.3 per cent decline in its consolidated revenue to Rs 3,126.06 crore for FY24, according to an RoC filing from the company.
Its total profit plummeted 89.1 per cent to Rs 17.29 crore for the financial year ended on March 31, 2024, according to financial data accessed through the business intelligence platform Tofler. Parle Agro Pvt Ltd, an unlisted entity which operates in the Indian beverage industry, posted revenue from operations of Rs 3,565.96 crore and a profit of Rs 158.78 crore in FY23.
The total consolidated income of Prakash J Chauhan-led Parle Agro was 12.15 per cent lower at Rs 3,209.43 crore in FY24. The same stood at Rs 3,653.48 crore in FY23. Its ‘advertising promotional expenses’ were 17.7 per cent higher at Rs 278.38 crore in FY24 compared to Rs 236.49 crore a year ago.
According to a PTI report, Parle Agro said the decline in profit and revenue in FY24 stemmed from significant tax policy changes.
Mukesh Ambani, has revived older soft drink brand Campa Cola to challenge industry giants like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo. Parle Agro’s Frooti is also competing these brands in soft drink market.
