Alice Walton is now the richest woman on the planet, standing at number 18 on the Bloomberg Billionaires list. However she is not the first woman to enter the elusive $100 billion club.
Alice Walton, the daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton, has become the richest woman on the planet, and joined the coveted $100 billion club, with a net worth of around $101 billion. Who is Alice Walton?
Alice Walton, along with her two siblings, Rob and Jim Walton, are the children of Sam Walton, who founded Walmart in 1945. Walmart, which is half-owned by two holding companies owned by the Walton family, is the world’s largest retailer and has been perched the Fortune 500 list for over a decade.
Alice, 74, co-manages Walton Enterprises, one of the holding companies which has a major stake in Walmart, and the earnings from that endeavor contribute a major portion to her overall net worth of $101 billion (or Rs 84,49,36,20,50,00 in Indian rupees).
Richest woman on earth
Alice Walton is now the richest woman on the planet, standing at number 18 on the Bloomberg Billionaires list. However she is not the first woman to enter the elusive $100 billion club. Earlier this year, L’Oreal heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers became the first woman to be officially declared a centi-billionaire when she was valued at $101 billion.
But while Meyers’ fortune has significantly tanked since then to $88.2 billion, Alice’s has risen by a whopping $30.8 billion in 2024.
The $100 million club
Notably, Alice is not the only Walton to feature in the $100 billion club, Her older siblings Jim (76), and Rob (79), are ahead of her on the Billionaires index list, coming in at number 16 and 17, respectively.
Jim Walton was the first to enter the exclusive club which only has 18 members, while Rob also joined a few days later. The Walton brothers have a net worth of $104 billion, and $102 billion, respectively.
There are only 18 people on the entire planet with a net worth of over $100 billion, including Indian business magnates Mukesh Ambani, and Gautam Adani. On top of the list, Tesla CEO Elon Musk leads the pack with a net worth of $268 billion, followed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who recently joined the even more elusive $200 billion club.
