The IPL 2025 mega auction will be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, featuring 1,574 players vying for 204 slots across ten franchises.
New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This marks the second consecutive year the event will be held overseas, following the 2024 auction in Dubai.
The IPL governing council announced that 10 franchises will offer a total of 204 slots in the upcoming 2025 mega auction. A total of 1,574 players have registered for the event, with 1,165 Indian players and 409 international players competing for selection.
“The IPL player registration officially closed on November 4, 2024, with an impressive total of 1,574 players (1,165 Indian and 409 overseas) signing up to be part of the mega TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction, which will be held over two days on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,” IPL Media Advisory said in a press release.
Additionally, the council noted that among the registered players, 320 are capped, 1,224 are uncapped, and 30 players come from associate nations for the mega auction.
The auction will coincide with the third and fourth days of the first Test between India and Australia in Perth.
According to the IPL, the TATA IPL 2025 mega auction will feature 48 capped Indian players, 272 capped international players, 965 uncapped Indian cricketers, and 104 uncapped international cricketers.
Additionally, the auction will include 152 uncapped Indian players and 3 uncapped international players who have participated in previous IPL seasons.
In terms of country representation, the auction features 409 overseas players, with the highest numbers coming from South Africa (91), followed by Australia (76), England (52), New Zealand (39), and West Indies (33). Additionally, 29 players from both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are participating, along with 13 from Bangladesh.

Other participating countries include the Netherlands (12 players), the USA (10), Ireland (9), Zimbabwe (8), Canada (4), Scotland (2), Italy (1), and the UAE (1).
The BCCI has announced that each franchise can have a maximum squad of 25 players, with 204 slots available at the TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction.
A total of 46 players were retained across the ten franchises in the IPL, with Sunrisers Hyderabad retaining wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen for ₹23 crore, the highest retention cost. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants both retained Virat Kohli and Nicholas Pooran for ₹21 crore each. In contrast, Mumbai Indians kept all their key Indian players—Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma—totaling ₹75 crore in retainers.
Punjab Kings retained Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh for a combined total of ₹9.5 crore.
