Milpitas school district celebrates innovative new campus – The Mercury News

The Milpitas Unified School District is one step closer to completing its new campus designed to provide training and education that translate into sustainable careers.

District officials and staff from Blach Construction and Quattrocchi Kwok Architects, along with community partners, members and supporters, recently celebrated the completion of phase 2 of the district’s Innovation Campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Phase 2 included the construction of two L-shaped classroom buildings surrounding a central courtyard. These will serve as a permanent home to Calaveras Hills High School, enabling the alternative school to expand its program offerings. Additionally, an existing building was modernized to provide Career Technical Education lab space for robotics and advanced manufacturing courses.

The first four buildings constructed during Phase 1 of the project have been fully operational since August 2023. The buildings house the district’s offices and adult school, as well as the Milpitas High School Extension.

Funding for the first two phases of the $90 million, nearly 100,000-square-foot project comes from the 2018 Bond Measure AA and California state matching grants.

The third and final phase of the project will include a Workforce Development Center and Early Childhood Education Research Center.

All told, the campus, located at the former site of Samuel Ayer High School, will be made up of myriad classrooms, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) labs, a Learning Hub and support spaces that accommodate a wide variety of programming for Milpitas students of all ages. Specific curriculum will include business entrepreneurship, biology, virtual reality, AV production, coding, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer science and virtual design and construction, as well as simulation for legal, financial, manufacturing and health career training.
