Bhubaneswar: Higher education minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak gave a pep talk to principals of government, aided colleges and teacher education institutes at the workshop-cum-orientation programme organised here on Wednesday. He discussed infrastructure, quality of education, scholarship and other issues of the higher education institutions.
Nayak said the state government has taken several initiatives in the higher education sectors and it was discussed in the orientation meeting. “Fund has been provided to the higher education institutions for infrastructure development. We have discussed with the principals of the colleges and vice-chancellors of some state public universities about its utilization,” he added.
He said they also discussed the bottlenecks faced by the institutions. “Uniformity should be maintained among the colleges and universities so that it will help the students. I put emphasis on the proper implementation of scholarship schemes. Students should avail the scholarships in time without facing any problems,” he added.
He said principals need to take responsibility for informing the students about the scholarships and helping them to avail it without any hassle. “We have taken necessary steps for using technology for teaching and learning processes. Wi-fi facilities will be provided in higher education institutions soon. Institutions will get it in a phased manner,” he added.
Higher education department secretary Aravind Agrawal while addressing the college principals emphasized the importance of their role in shaping the future of higher education.
Vice-chancellors of three state public universities along with principals of 370 degree colleges and teacher education institutions attended the workshop-cum-orientation programme. Chairperson of Mo College Abhijan Akash Dasnayak and other dignitaries were present in the meeting.
A technical session was conducted in the meeting where the secretary along with other officials discussed the road map for five years, the status of ongoing projects, research and fellowship programmes, skill development and certificate courses and problems faced by the students, staff and college authorities.
