Mumbai: Defending Indian Super League champions Mumbai City FC have joined hands with Etihad Airways in a multi-year partnership ahead of the 2024-25 ISL season. The development will see Etihad Airways to be the official front of shirt sponsor of Mumbai City FC, who have won two ISL titles and two ISL Cups. The deal, which is a record in Indian football in terms of duration, coincides with Etihad celebrating 20 years of flying to India. The partnership builds upon the decades-long connection between the home countries of the two organisations and reinforces the shared values of teamwork and excellence. Both club and airline aim to bring people together and give flight to ambition.
Meanwhile, the club have also announced Lallianzuala Chhangte as their new captain for the 2024-25 season. Since joining the Islanders in 2022, Chhangte has consistently delivered standout performances, amassing 29 goals and 16 assists in 79 appearances. In the 2023-24 ISL season, he replicated his previous campaign’s success by contributing 16 goals (10 goals and 6 assists), becoming the first Indian player in ISL history to record over 15 goal contributions in back-to-back seasons.
A key player in the team’s triumphs, Chhangte helped the Mumbai City FC clinch the ISL League Winners’ Shield in 2022-23 season and played a decisive role in securing the ISL Cup in the following season with crucial goal contributions. The excitement is palpable as The Islanders gear up for the season opener on Friday, September 13, where the 2023-24 ISL Cup winners, Mumbai City FC, are set to face off against Mohun Bagan SG at the iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
The reigning champions will open their ISL 2024-25 campaign against Mohun Bagan Super Giants in an away time in Kolkata on September 13. The Islanders will make their much-anticipated return to the Mumbai Football Arena at home against Bengaluru FC on October 2.
