“You’ve got to watch — (but) we’ve had the highest score in 14 years ever,” Fassnidge said.
Feildel revealed he had enjoyed the best dish of his MKR judging career during the new season.
“We love working on MKR,” Feildel said.
“I’ve been doing it for 14 years. And, you know, there’s been some terrible dishes and there’s been some amazing ones. But this season, there’s a couple of dishes, which are incredible.”
Kylie Gillies asked if this year’s contestants were “funny” or “fiery”, and Feildel responded they were a mixed bag.
“They are a bit of everything, actually,” he said.
“We’ve got some great cooks, some not so good. We’ve got some funny people around the table.
“There’s people who can zip it and (others who) say too much, but it’s a great bunch. There’s no fight as such. It’s just a great banter.”
Fassnidge added: “I will say from day one when we walked in, (contestant) Hannah screams, so that was the first time we met the table.
“Like they (the contestants) were on fire … we just had to sit back. We didn’t have to do anything. Just sit back.”
Feildel said he was also a little bit tougher this year.
“I mean, in the old days, Colin used to play the bad cop and I used to play the good cop. But this season, I got in a bit of trouble with one of the dishes,” he said.
“You’re a bit grumpy this year,” Fassnidge observed.
Finally, Feildel spoke about his love of sauce in dishes, noting that it was now well known after previous seasons he looked carefully at the sauce.
“I think it’s finally clicked in,” he said.
“(The contestants) finally understand after 14 years. Just give me some sauce and I’ll give you extra points.”
MKR returns to Channel 7 and 7plus 7.30pm, Monday September 9.
