MyFirst has released an AI-powered camera designed for kids aged five to 12. Called the Camera 50, it offers AI-assisted photo and video editing on the device.
The myFirst Camera 50 comes with a 20-megapixel rear sensor and a 16-megapixel selfie camera but the selling point is the AI technology.
It comes with an AI video editor which can analyze content — recognizing facial expressions, scenery, and colors, to “create perfectly curated stories with minimal effort”.
The young users can add personal touches like stickers, drawings, and voice notes to further enhance the creative process.
Camera Jabber notes that the AI technology makes photo and video editing straightforward for kids and could be a first step into content creation.
Since the camera is designed for children, myFirst has emphasized safety and privacy. The camera doesn’t collect personal data and keeps children’s content secure via a “pin-coded protected video diary”. The camera is accompanied by the myFirst Circle app where children can share their creations but parents have full control over who can view their child’s work.
MyFirst is a Singapore-based tech brand that releases products solely for children. G-Jay Yong, the company’s founder, explains that myFirst started because his daughter was unable to pick up his “heavy” DSLR camera.
MyFirst has previously released instant cameras for kids including the myFirst Camera Insta 2.
“When my daughter grows older, she is asking for more advanced features like video filming and video editing,” says Yong.
“But you know it is difficult for them, that’s why we designed a new product for this purpose.”
The myFirst Camera 50 also comes with a novel feature called myDiary. This feature is a blend of photography and journaling where children can express themselves and reflect on their day. This is the feature that is pin-coded so the content is kept secure.
The myFirst Camera 50 comes in either blue or purple. Both versions come in a durable, kid-proof case meaning it should be safe from being dropped. It is available for $129 from the myFirst website.
