India will be hoping that Neeraj Chopra will be able to bring back the smiles on the sporting faces of fans in this nation when he takes centrestage in the men’s javelin final on Day 13 of Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday (August 8) night. Neeraj is hoping to become the first-ever Indian to defend his individual gold medal which he won at Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Neeraj’s final event will get underway just before midnight on Thursday and he will face stiff competition from the likes of Anderson Peters and Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who are also in fray for a medal.

The Indian men’s hockey team will also look to defend their bronze medal, which they won heroically in Tokyo three years back, as they get ready to take on Spain in the bronze medal match on Wednesday evening. Harmanpreet Singh’s side will feel any result less than a medal for the side to be a disappointment.

Among other Indians in the fray, women golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will begin the second round of the individual event while 100m hurdler Jyothi Yarraji will be competing in the repechage round.

Among the wrestlers, Aman Sehrawat and Anshu Malik will be competing in the 57kg pre-quarterfinals and will aim to reach the semifinal like Vinesh Phogat before them to secure a couple of medals for India.
