Noel Tata, born in 1957 in Mumbai, is the half-brother of Ratan Tata. Both share the same father, Naval Tata, but come from different marriages. Ratan is the son of Naval’s first wife, Sooni Commissariat, while Noel is the son of Naval’s second wife, Simone Tata, who hails from Switzerland. Notably, Noel Tata holds Irish citizenship.
Noel Tata has been part of the Tata Group for over four decades, serving on the boards of multiple Tata companies. As the former managing director of Tata International, he significantly expanded the trading division’s turnover from USD 500 million to over USD 3 billion, according to the Tata Group website.
Education and Family Background
Noel Tata began his education in Mumbai, completing his early schooling before moving to the UK for higher studies. He graduated from the University of Sussex and later honed his business skills through the International Executive Program at INSEAD Business School in France.
On the personal front, Noel is married to Aloo Mistry, daughter of the late Pallonji Mistry, a towering figure in Indian business. This union connects two of India’s most influential families, blending the legacies of the Tata and Mistry clans. Notably, Aloo’s brother, Cyrus Mistry, succeeded Ratan Tata as Chairman of Tata Sons but was removed in 2016, prompting Ratan Tata’s temporary return to the role.
The couple has three children: Leah, Maya, and Neville. Leah pursued a career in marketing, beginning with Taj Hotels. Maya has experience with the Tata Opportunities Fund and is now with Tata Digital. Neville works in the retail sector with Trent and is married to Mansi Kirloskar, a prominent figure at Kirloskar Technologies.
