DMRC said that Delhi Metro tickets can now be booked up to 120 days in advance and are fully synchronized with the Indian Railways’ Advance Reservation Period (ARP).
Delhi Metro: In a unique initiative aimed to enhance the experience of commuters travelling on the Delhi Metro and regular trains in Delhi-NCR, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Wednesday announced that travellers can now book their QR Code-based tickets on the the IRCTC website and mobile app, adding that a full version will be launched soon.
In a statement, DMRC said that Delhi Metro tickets can now be booked up to 120 days in advance and are fully synchronized with the Indian Railways’ Advance Reservation Period (ARP).
“Currently, single journey tickets of Delhi Metro can only be booked on the day of travel with same day validity. With this facility, the DMRC-IRCTC QR code-based tickets will be synchronized with Indian Railways’ ARP allowing passengers to book even Metro tickets upto 120 days in advance.”
“The tickets are valid for four days, thus making travel planning easier for commuters. One QR code per passenger will be printed/ available in the Electronic Reservation Slip of IRCTC,” it said, adding that the tickers will be valid for a single journey for a period of four days starting from the day before the journey date, the travel date itself, and two days after the journey date.
DMRC, IRCTC, CRIS announce collab
The DMRC also announced a collaboration with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), and Centre For Railway Information Systems (CRIS), to promote the ‘One India – One Ticket’ initiative.
“The IRCTC, DMRC, and CRIS, have collaborated in the first of its kind Initiative, to revolutionize seamless travel experience of the Main Line Railway and Metro Passengers in Delhi NCR area, thereby promoting ‘One India – One Ticket’ initiative of the Government of India,” the statement said.
Beta version of QR-based ticketing launched
The beta version of the Delhi Metro Rail QR Code –based ticket was launched Wednesday which will enable mainline Railway passengers to book DMRC QR Code Tickets on IRCTC Website and Android version of IRCTC mobile app, it said, adding that a regular version of the IRCTC-DMRC QR Code Ticket will be launched soon in the near future.
“The collaborative effort will enhance the travel experience of Railway passengers by allowing them to book Delhi Metro Tickets at the rail ticket confirmation page clubbing it either with source or destination station falling in Delhi/NCR region. The passengers can also book Delhi metro tickets at a later stage via the booking history page,” it said.
Flexible cancellations have also been ensured and the novel initiative will help save time of commuters by avoiding long queues at ticketing booths at Metro stations, DMRC stated.
