NSW drivers have been reminded about the correct road rules when going through a roundabout.
NSW Police said there are a number of common “myths” surrounding roundabouts, including that drivers only need to give way to cars on their right.
This belief is “completely wrong”, police said in a post on social media.

“Believing this can lead to collisions, insurance claims and action from police,” it said.
“The rules are clear, when entering a roundabout drivers must slow or stop to give way to any vehicle already in the roundabout.”
NSW drivers may also not be aware they need to indicate their exit from the roundabout with their left blinker.
Failing to do so can incur a costly penalty.
“This indiscretion could land the driver liable for a $227 fine and two demerit points,” police said.
Many drivers thanked police for clearing up the roundabout myths, saying these days it seems like anything goes.
“Great to see this information getting out into the wild,” one person commented on the post.
“My experience with roundabouts is that some people follow the rule that the person going the fastest as they approach the roundabout has right of way.”
Another said: “Glad to see this post. Roundabouts’ biggest hindrance are those waiting for others from their right to proceed. A lot of our traffic snarls would not be an issue if roundabouts were used correctly.”
