NSW road blitz: Man caught riding unregistered motorbike with toddler, 2, pillion

A man has been charged by NSW Police after being caught allegedly riding an unregistered motorcycle with a two-year-old pillion passenger during a four-day road safety blitz.

The 24-year-old man, who was riding with a disqualified license on December 6, was not wearing a helmet, nor was the toddler.

He also allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test.

A total of 14 traffic charges and six criminal charges were laid during the Operation Spoiler, which was conducted from December 5 to December 9, targeting road users in the Armidale and Tamworth areas in northwest NSW.

In addition, police issued 184 penalty notices, including 34 for speeding, 19 for seatbelt violations, 20 for illegal mobile phone use, and 111 for other traffic offences.

The blitz comes in response to rising road incidents in the region, with 293 major collisions and 32 fatalities recorded in the New England and Oxley police districts in 2024.

Superintendent Paul Glinn said the ongoing efforts aim to reduce traffic offences.

“We will continue to work closely with local police and the community to make every effort possible to identify road users breaking the law and bring them before the court,” he said.
