Nvidia: Nvidia rides the AI wave as profits, revenue rise

One company which is reaping enormous benefits of the AI wave is Nvidia. And it is evident in its quarterly results. The US-based tech firm announced its quarterly results and reported revenue for the second quarter ended July 30, 2023, of $13.51 billion. This figure is up 101% from a year ago and up 88% from the previous quarter.
Nvidia’s GPUs are in huge demand
Companies that are betting on generative AI need GPUs from Nvidia. The company’s A100 and H100 chips are used to build and run ChatGPT, Bard and other generative AI models. Nvidia’s Data Centre posted robust revenues. The second-quarter revenue was a record $10.32 billion, up 141% from the previous quarter and up 171% from a year ago.
Nvidia has already announced next-generation of chips that will be used for AI models across the world.
Nvidia’s GPUs play a critical role in generative AI. Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create new content, such as images, text, or music. This is done by training a neural network on a large dataset of existing content. The neural network then learns to identify patterns and relationships in the data, and use this knowledge to generate new content that is similar to the data it was trained on.
These GPUs are ideal for generative AI because they are designed to accelerate the mathematical operations that are required for training and deploying neural networks. GPUs have thousands of cores that can be used to perform these operations in parallel. This allows generative AI models to be trained much faster and more efficiently on GPUs than on CPUs.
“A new computing era has begun. Companies worldwide are transitioning from general-purpose to accelerated computing and generative AI,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia.
“During the quarter, major cloud service providers announced massive NVIDIA H100 AI infrastructures. Leading enterprise IT system and software providers announced partnerships to bring NVIDIA AI to every industry. The race is on to adopt generative AI,” he added.
