Odisha Schools And Colleges Closed On Jan 27

As mentioned earlier, all educational institutions, i.e. both schools and colleges in Odisha will remain closed on Saturday, January 27, 2024. The holiday has been declared by the Odisha Government  and the reason for the same is the Inauguration of the Samaleswari Temple Area Management and Local Economy Initiatives (SAMALEI) Project. The government offices will also be closed on this day but not because of the event but because it is the fourth Saturday of the month.

What Is The SAMALEI Project?

If you are not aware of the SAMALEI Project, know that it is an initiative by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik; it is a redevelopment plan for Goddess Samaleswari’s shrine in Sambalpur. According to media reports, the project’s budget is Rs 200 Crore and the inaugural rituals for the project started on the day of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha, i.e. January 22, 2024. On the 75th Republic Day, i.e. January 26, a Kalash Yatra with women from the city, will conclude all the ceremonies and rituals and all the water that will be collected, will be used for the Goddess’ holy bath.

The project includes construction of a heritage corridor, modern facilities, the peripheral development and enhancement of the temple and development of the Mahanadi riverside over the 40-acre area. This project, for the smooth visiting of the devotees, includes a total of four heritage gates situated on the four sides of the beautiful temple; there are large parking areas, restrooms and concession areas for the comfort of the devotees.

The project also includes development schemes like housing projects for those rendering their services to the temple and a 30-metre road connecting the temple zone with the Mahanadi Bank.
