On the Podcast: The 200 Covers of Tonne Goodman—And Vogue at the DNC

Tonne Goodman has had a lot of titles over the course of her career—stylist, fashion director, sustainability editor—and in the halls of Vogue, she’s got one more: legend. Goodman is the fashion editor behind many of Vogue’s best-known cover images, including Christy Turlington rocking an impressive boat pose in 2002; Michelle Obama during the first weeks of her husband’s presidency in 2009; Beyoncé bedecked in a floral headpiece in 2018; and Blake Lively’s Old Hollywood-themed cover story for the September 2024 issue…which also happened to be Goodman’s 200th Vogue cover.

In this week’s episode of The Run-Through, Goodman talks with Chloe about building a truly iconic body of work. Whether capturing the perfect image, negotiating creative differences, or collaborating with director Baz Luhrmann on one of Vogue’s most cinematic shoots to date, Goodman has done it all, and she shares decades worth of wisdom.

But first, Vogue political correspondent Jack Schlossberg and Vogue fashion writer Hannah Jackson catch us up on all of the happenings at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Jack shares what it was like to speak at the DNC on Tuesday night, and the details behind the now-viral photo of a young Nancy Pelosi with his maternal grandfather, John F. Kennedy.

Hannah also updates us on all the most notable looks at the DNC. From the preponderance of Brat green to Vice President Kamala Harris’s all-too-perfect “coconut brown” Chloé suit, Hannah shares the trends she’s been in Chicago and what they could mean for Democrats as we approach the election.
