The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag rule is implemented to discourage using single FASTag for several vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to one vehicle.
One Vehicle One FASTag: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) launched the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ norm on Monday, April 1 to ensure smooth vehicular movement at the Toll Plazas across the country.
This new ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ norm is introduced to taper off the use of a single FASTag for several vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle.
“Multiple FASTags won’t work. People who have multiple FASTags for one vehicle won’t be able to use all of them from today (April 1),” said an official while talking to news agency PTI.
The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ rule has been introduced as there were reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a particular vehicle and FASTags being used without KYC which is in complete violation of RBI’s mandate. The other reason is that many drivers purposely do not place FASTags on windshields causing toll plaza delays and inconveniencing other highway users.
March 31 was the last date to update FASTag KYC. from the corresponding bank. NHAI has several times asked FASTag customers to complete the KYC process for FASTag as per the rules of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) so that the FASTag facility can be provided without any hassle.
One Vehicle One FASTag
Customers will now be able to use only one FASTag for one vehicle. According to NHAI, FASTag users will have to follow the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ policy and return all previously issued FASTags to their respective banks. Now only new FASTag accounts will remain active.
NHAI has launched the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ campaign to bring transparency and reduce the waiting time at toll plazas for collecting the toll through FASTag.
What is FASTag?
FASTag is a cashless payment system model under which toll tax amount is collected electronically via specialised tags called FASTags to save time and avoid long toll jams. The FASTag is operated by over 35 different banks in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India and the NHAI.
Through this technology, the cameras installed at the toll plaza scan the barcode of the sticker and the toll fee is automatically deducted from the FASTag wallet. By using FASTag, the driver does not have to stop to pay toll tax. It is used to reduce time taken at toll plazas and make travel easier.
Where To Get FASTag From?
You can buy FASTag from any toll plaza in the country. Apart from this, you can also buy it from the branches of Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI, and Kotak Bank. You can also buy it from online platforms like Amazon and Google Pay.
