MURPHY FOR VERSACE: Versace is launching the Icons line for men and has secured man-of-the-moment Cillian Murphy to front a dedicated campaign, bowing globally on April 3.
Murphy on Sunday took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for the titular role in “Oppenheimer” wearing an Atelier Versace tuxedo accessorized with a gold Sauvereign brooch.
The campaign will be Murphy’s first for the Milan-based brand and sees the Academy Award-winning actor wearing key pieces from Versace Icons collection.
“I am thrilled that Cillian is joining the Versace family. He is a truly exceptional actor and totally deserves his Oscar win,” said chief creative officer Donatella Versace. “He is magnetic and mesmerizing in front of a camera and I loved seeing him bring Versace to life.”
Murphy has worn Versace designs during the 2024 awards season, including to accept his Oscar for Best Actor at the 96th Academy Awards.
Murphy started working with “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan in 2005 in “The Dark Knight Trilogy.” He also appeared in “Inception” and “Dunkirk.” The Irish actor gained even greater prominence for his role as Tommy Shelby in “Peaky Blinders.” For portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer, Murphy also received a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award.
As reported, Versace Icons made its way to Los Angeles in time for Oscars weekend.
Partnering with Net-a-porter, the luxury Italian house brought together friends of the brand — those it regards as groundbreakers in their fields — in various cities. The party has traveled to New York and Shanghai with the faces of its Versace Icons womenswear collection campaign, Anne Hathaway and Chris Lee, respectively. In recent Versace news, as reported by WWD in February, the brand has tapped K-pop star Ningning as a global brand ambassador. The 21-year-old year rose to fame in 2020 as part of the girl group Aespa of SM Entertainment.
