Kolkata: Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi became the fastest pacer and third-fastest overall to complete 100 ODI wickets in a match against Bangladesh in the ongoing World Cup 2023 match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday. The left-arm pacer reached his milestone on the fifth ball of the match when he trapped Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan for a duck. He got his 100th ODI wicket in 51s innings ahead of Mitchell Starc (52), Shane Bond (54), Mustafizur Rahman (54) and Brett Lee (55).

In the overall list, Nepal spinner Sandeep Lamichhane (42) tops the list, followed by Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan (44). Starc and Saqlain Mushraq (55) take the fourth and fifth positions respectively. Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat against Pakistan.

Afridi, who is the son-in-law of former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi, got his 101st wicket in the next over itself when Najmul Hossain Shanto gave a simple catch to Usama Mir. With 15 scalps, Afridi is currently second in the list of most wickets.

Bangladesh brought back Towhid Hridoy in place of Mahedi Hasan to their playing eleven. Pakistan made three changes bringing in Fakhar Zaman, Agha Salman and Usama Mir in place of Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.
