Pancake Day Racing in Scarborough Today

Scarborough’s annual pancake day races are taking place today.

Teams from along the Yorkshire Coast will be competing in the fancy dress obstacle course race while flipping their pancakes.

The annual Shrove Tuesday event gets underway just after midday on Aberdeen Walk.

The Charter Mayor will be ringing the pancake bell and Paddy will be overseeing proceedings on the This is the Coast Stage.

Teams will be battling it out to win the Golden Frying Pan. Local businesses will compete in a fancy dress obstacle course race, while flipping their pancakes. They will be judged on their speed, their costumes and the amount of pancake they manage to keep in their frying pans.

The Mayor will ring the traditional pancake bell at midday signalling the start of racing which will take place over a number of heats with the eventual winners walking away with the coveted golden frying pan.

Following the racing the crowds moved to Foreshore Road for the town’s traditional Shrove Tuesday skipping event.

The event is being staged by North Yorkshire Council with the obstacle course being devised by Everyone Active. Paddy will be hosting the This is the Coast stage from 11:30am.
