Paramore singer Hayley Williams reacts quickly after pyrotechnics misfire

Paramore singer Hayley Williams had to do some quick thinking on stage in Melbourne after a pyrotechnic display went horribly wrong.

The American rock band was playing the song “Hard Times” at the Rod Laver Arena when sparks accidentally flew across the stage at the wrong time, narrowly missing Williams.

A fan shared the moment via a video post to X (formerly Twitter), captioned “Hard Times (Somebody’s Getting Fired Version).”

As sparks exploded near the band, Williams paused, threw her hands up in the air, and then clearly relieved she had escaped injury began singing: “Somebody is getting fired, Beyonce did it so we can too, And I can’t wait to speak with you, it’s the third time you’ve done that s*** to us …”

Fans loved the way Williams immediately altered the lyrics to Hard Times but managed to keep the song’s melody as other band members smiled in the background.

“The Beyonce somebody getting fired reference is top tier,” one person wrote, referring to a similar incident at a Beyonce concert.

“Those spark effects units are as reliable as politicians in fairness… always backfiring,” another joked.

“Protect Hayley at all costs,” wrote another, sharing a “You Had One Job To Do” meme.

Other footage posted to X from the Melbourne concert on Monday night taken from a different angle shows the audience letting out a collective “whoah” as the pyrotechnics misfired.

“Good thing she fired them first before they get fired,” noted one fan.

“When you lied on your resume and now Miss Hayley Williams is shouting at you in front of thousands of people,” added another.

“Someone made mom MAD,” wrote a third.

The Grammy Award-winning trio will finish their Australian tour on Thursday night – hopefully without any further pyrotechnic accidents.

The band, consisting of singer Williams, Zac Farro and Taylor York, have played in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

It’s their first trip to Australia since 2018, when they played sold-out shows across the east coast on the back of their After Laughter album.

Speaking on NOVA ahead of their arrival, Williams said she was excited to be heading back Down Under.

“It’s been a lifetime,” Williams told radio host Kent “Smallzy” Small.

“We’ve basically toured for just about a year.

“We just wrapped up a big North American run that was a very incredible and very long summer.

“But you know what?

“These shows are so memorable, there’s so much joy.

“It’s such a treat for us.”

Minus the pyrotechnic mishaps, perhaps.
