Severe heatwave conditions are continuing to bake parts of far north and western Queensland, with conditions predicted to ease in the next few days.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s first severe heat wave warning on Saturday for the Peninsula district, in the state’s far north, has continued into Tuesday.
It is affecting areas including the Lockhart River and the coastal mining town of Weipa, which was forecast experience severe heatwave conditions on Saturday.

Low-intensity heatwaves are also expected over Birdsville in the west and other locations in the southeast.
“Severe heatwave conditions over the Peninsula district are expected to ease over the coming days,” the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said.
“Maximum temperatures in the low to high 30Cs and overnight minimum temperatures in the low to mid-20Cs (are expected).”
BOM warned severe heatwaves can be dangerous especially for older people, babies, children and pregnant women.
“Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre,” it said.
“Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
“If available, use fans or airconditioners to keep cool.”
