Person reportedly falls from ride at Canada’s Wonderland

One person has reportedly been sent to a hospital after falling from a swing ride at Canada’s Wonderland on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Vaughan theme park told CP24 that ride operators on the Swing of the Century reported a guest injury shortly after 2:30 p.m.

“Park medical staff and EMS responded, and the guest was taken to hospital,” the spokesperson said in an email to CTV News Toronto, per CP24. “An incident investigation is underway. The safety of our guests and associates is our top priority.”

York Region paramedics had earlier told CP24 that someone had fallen about 30 to 40 feet from a ride and was taken to a trauma centre.

The extent of the person’s injuries and their current condition were not known.

The circumstances that led to the fall were likewise not immediately clear.

The amusement park ride was previously called Swing of Siam, according to Canada’s Wonderland’s website. It was one of the 26 original rides when the park opened its gates in 1981.

The swing ride has free-hanging seats suspended from an elevated, rotating and slanting tower and can accommodate as many as 48 riders.
