PH bet Jarod Hatch makes early exit in Paris Olympics swimming

MANILA, Philippines—Jarod Hatch’s run in the Paris Olympics 2024 ended in the heats of men’s 100m butterfly swimming competition at Paris La Defense Arena on Friday (Manila time).

The Team Philippine swimmer ended up in eighth and last place in his respective race after clocking in 54.66 seconds. Overall, that put him in the 36th spot out of 40 swimmers.

Only the top 16 swimmers advance to the semifinals.

Hatch competed in Heat 2 where leader Jiajun Sun led from start to finish and finished with a time of 51.85 seconds. Chad Le Clos of the Republic of South Africa and Mario Molla Yanes of Span rounded out the Heat’s top three.

However, neither Sun, Le Clos, nor Molla Yanes reached the Top 16 despite reigning supreme in Heat 2.

Milak Kristof of Hungary topped the heats at 50.19 seconds.

Hatch’s counterpart Kayla Sanchez also fell out of medal contention for Team Philippine, but she reached the semifinal in the women’s 100m freestyle race.
