Pop superstar Tones and I invites Raygun on stage to do ‘iconic’ Olympic dance at Rod Laver Arena

Australian Olympic breaker Raygun this week confirmed her competing days were over after the backlash from her performance in Paris, but insisted she would continue to dance outside of competition.

On Saturday night she did just that — in front of thousands.

Raygun was a surprise guest on stage with Aussie singer Tones and I during the Melbourne leg of her headline Australian tour.

Thousands at Rod Laver Arena were in raptures when the Olympic breaker was introduced onto the stage during Tones and I’s fitting hit, Dance With Me.

“Everybody, give it up for Australian Olympian, Raygun!” Tones and I said during the performance.

The 37-year-old breaker then took centre stage for the last chorus of the song, performing a snippet of the then-infamous dances that earned her zero points in all three of her Olympic round robin battles, including her signature kangaroo move, which is now celebrated as “iconic”.

The crowd and stage were showered in confetti when the Raygun kangaroo came out, which was followed by a choreographed performance with backup dancers.

“Everybody, would you please give it up for an Australian icon, the most iconic break dancer there is, Raygun!” Tones and I said at the end of the song.

Posting on Instagram the morning after the performance, Raygun said it was a thrill to be up there.

“What an amazing experience! Thank you Tones and I for inviting onto your stage. So much love,” she wrote.

Thanking her for accepting the invitation, Tones and I added: “Raygun the most beautiful, kindest, full of life human I have met. It was an honour to celebrate you last night.

“Thank you for sharing the stage with me and bringing smiles to so many faces. You always have a friend in me. Tones.”

Tones and I has around five billion streams on Spotify, including more than three billion on Dance Monkey alone, and over 11 million monthly listeners on the app.

Raygun was trolled, bullied and ridiculed in September after her effort in Paris, which had the world questioning how she earned her spot at the Games in the first place.

But the hate for the dancer, whose real name is Rachael Gunn, has since turned into love.

“Love that you celebrated this young woman — she deserves nothing less #womensupportingwomen,” one person commented on Tones and I’s post.

“That’s how you lift women up – well done!” another added.

“Such an iconic moment,” a third said.

Speaking earlier this week, Raygun said she was done with competing.

“Dancing is so much fun and it makes you feel good and I don’t think people should feel crap about, you know, the way that they dance,” she told 2DayFM.

Asked if she’d ever compete at the Olympics again — or at all — she immediately answered: “No”.

“I was gonna keep competing, for sure, but that seems a really difficult thing for me to do now,” she said.
