New Delhi: The IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, saw 182 players sold for a record Rs 639.5 crore, but several high-profile names were left unsold. Among the biggest surprises was Prithvi Shaw, who went unsold after being released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the auction. Once hailed as one of India’s brightest young talents, Shaw’s fall from grace is now one of the most heartbreaking stories in Indian cricket. Just two days after failing to secure a spot in the IPL, he has now found himself at the center of a serious allegation.

In an interview with PTI, a former BCCI selector slammed Prithvi Shaw following his unsold status at the IPL 2025 auction. The selector accused Shaw of disregarding valuable advice from his India U-19 coach Rahul Dravid, along with cricket legends Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly, during his time at Delhi Capitals.

The former selector further revealed that even cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar had a conversation with Prithvi Shaw, offering his guidance. However, despite interactions with such legendary figures, it seems there has been no noticeable improvement or change in Shaw’s approach.

“Prithvi has been in Delhi Capitals. In DC itself, he had a chance to interact with Rahul Dravid, who was also his U-19 India coach, Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly. It’s an open secret in Mumbai cricket that Tendulkar has also spoken to him. Are these legends fools? Do you see any change in him? Even if there is, it is not evident,” the selector shockingly revealed.

Prithvi Shaw was among the four players retained by Delhi Capitals during the IPL 2022 mega auction, at a significant value of Rs 7.5 crore. However, for the IPL 2025 auction, Shaw’s base price was set at Rs 75 lakh—a stark contrast to his previous salary, which had been 10 times higher. Despite this drastic salary reduction, Shaw failed to attract any bids from the franchises, leaving many surprised.
