With Microsoft announcing another strong line-up of Xbox Game Pass titles for May 2024, PS4 and PS5 users are waiting to see what Sony has in store for PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra later this month. Sony will officially announce the PS Plus Extra and Premium games at 4.30pm BST UK time on the afternoon of May 15. Subscribers will have to wait a little longer to actually be able to download and play the new releases, with the games joining the service on the morning of May 21. As a reminder, Sony typically adds around a dozen PS4 and PS5 games to the Extra line-up, alongside a handful of retro releases for the PlayStation Premium catalogue. Unfortunately, however, it’s not all good news, because Sony will also remove a number of games from PS Plus Extra on May 21.
Games leaving PS Plus Extra on May 21 include Horizon Zero Dawn, Darksiders, Wreckfest and Abzu.
That’s on top of a plethora of Final Fantasy games, including Final Fantasy 15, Final Fantasy X HD Remastered, Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy 7-9.
With a number of Final Fantasy games leaving PS Plus Extra in May, some subscribers believe Sony will replace the missing RPGs with alternative Final Fantasy titles on May 21.
Indeed, in a predictions thread on Reddit, multiple users think Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion could join the line-up, alongside Pixel Remasters of the earlier games.
Some fans even think Final Fantasy 16 could join PS Plus Extra in May, although this feels like wishful thinking.
Other games with multiple PS Plus Extra predictions include Resident Evil Village, which definitely feels like it’s long overdue.
With Capcom reportedly gearing up to announce an over-the-shoulder remake of the original Resident Evil, now would be a good time to bring Village to more people.
There are also multiple picks for roguelike action game Hades, not to mention the usual suspects of Sonic Frontiers, Forspoken and Nier Automata.
Other picks for PS Plus Extra in May include indie hit Cult of the Lamb, as well as Dead Island 2, a Call of Duty game, and Like a Dragon Ishin!
With Horizon Zero Dawn leaving PS Plus Extra in May, others think Sony will replace it with fellow first-party exclusive God of War Ragnarok.
Needless to say, there’s a good chance at least some of the games will leak ahead of schedule, so keep checking back for the latest information, as well as the full list once the games are announced at 4.30pm BST on May 15.
