Raccoon Jumps The Check-In Line At LaGuardia

A recent modernization helped LaGuardia Airport in New York City shake off its reputation as one of the worst major airports in the country, however, a raccoon plummeting from the ceiling over the Spirit Airlines check-in desk immediately gave airline passengers a taste of the old LaGuardia. Spirit already had a notable incident with another large rodent just last month.

The video of the raccoon fall is stunningly hilarious. The footage begins in media res with a ceiling panel already gone and the critter dangling from a cable like a struggling rock climber. Spirit Airlines staff immediately scrambled for their lives, shuffling back and forth to keep their distance from the raccoon. Then, a hero emerged to take on our antagonist. A guy in an olive green jacket, jeans and a trucker hat picked up a plastic container and headed into the proverbial fire. We don’t know if he was able to catch the raccoon.

The Port Authority told Gothamist that it’s investigating how the raccoon broke into the terminal to prevent it from happening again. It’s highly improbable but the animal could have flown into LaGuardia. In October, a “super-rat” was spotted in the ceiling of a plane during a Spirit flight from Dallas Fort Worth and Los Angeles. The low-cost carrier might have more pertinent financial woes, but there might also be a rodent problem.
