PM Modi spoke to Revanth Reddy and N Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, respectively, and assured them of all possible help from the Centre in the wake of heavy rains which have triggered floods in their states.
Telangana Floods: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart Revanth Reddy, and assured the two leaders that the Central government will extend all possible assistance to them in order to deal with the crisis following heavy rains in the two southern states.
According to officials, PM Modi spoke to the two chief ministers on the phone and assured them of all possible help from the Centre in the wake of heavy rains which have triggered floods in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Modi assured Reddy and Naidu that all possible assistance will be extended from the Centre to overcome this challenge, they said.
Reddy briefs PM on Telangana flood situation
As per an official release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Sunday night, CM Reddy briefed Prime Minister Modi on the losses incurred due to heavy rains in Telangana and about the immediate relief measures taken by the state government to prevent loss of lives and damages to properties.
The Chief Minister explained to PM Modi that Khammam district bore the brunt of heavy rains and suffered huge rain related damages.
PM Modi assured Revanth Reddy that helicopters that could fly even in adverse weather conditions would be sent to the state for rescue and relief operations, it said.
Shah speaks to Reddy
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Revanth Reddy over the phone and enquired about the situation in the flood affected areas in Telangana, the CMO release said, adding that Reddy informed Shah about the immediate precautions taken by the state government to prevent loss of life in the rain ravaged districts.
The Home Minister assured Reddy that the Union Government will extend necessary immediate assistance including flood relief measures to the State.
Telangana Rains
On Sunday, at least nine persons died in separate rain-related incidents in Telangana as heavy downpour continued to lash many parts of the state, including Hyderabad.
Reddy held an emergency review in view of the incessant rains in the state and spoke to ministers over phone and relief measures in submerged areas, an official release said.
Unprecedented rainfall in the past two days in Andhra has paralysed life at several places, especially in Vijayawada and vicinity, while 17,000 rain-affected people were evacuated from across the state.
