The Afghanistan vs Bangladesh match in Super 8 proved to be a virtual quarterfinal in the T20 World Cup 2024.
New Delhi: In a rare incident, Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan threw his bat at teammate Karim Janat during their crucial Super 8 clash against Bangladesh on Tuesday at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown. The incident took place in the final over of the Afghanistan innings. After hitting Tanzim Hasan Sakib for a huge six on the second ball, Rashid mistimed a lofted shot as the ball gobbled up in the air.
Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah Riyad, who was closest to the ball, failed collect the ball cleanly while Shakib Al Hasan took the opportunity to throw it towards the non-striker’s end. Rashid, who had completed the first run by then, wanted a second and cross the pitch halfway when Janat sent him back.
Furious at Janat, Rashid threw his bat at his teammate in frustration, the video of which was caught on television. While none of the players were injured, Rashid’s action might prompt ICC to penalize him.
