New Delhi: India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed that despite his match-winning performance in the 1st Test, he faced playful complaints from his wife Prithi Narayanan and their two daughters. In a heart-warming interview shared by the BCCI, Prithi, who attended the Chepauk Test with their children, interviewed Ashwin. In a humorous exchange, Ashwin shared that his family wondered why he didn’t come to meet or wave at them on Day 1. Prithi also asked Ashwin about his special connection with Chepauk and reflected on his stellar all-round performance at his home ground.
Prithi playfully asked Ashwin what gift he would give his daughters on Daughter’s Day, but the cricketer warmly replied that he would gift them the ball with which he took his five-wicket haul against Bangladesh. The 38-year-old, who was named Player of the Match for his six-wicket haul and sixth Test century at his home ground in Chennai, steered India to a comprehensive 280-run victory in the 1st Test on Day 4.

“I would give them the ball I picked up a fifer with,” Ashwin responded.
When asked about his wonderful innings, Ashwin said that he didn’t think of his 6th Test century and highlighted the special energy of the ground which kept him stay grounded.
“I don’t know how to react because the first day was something that happened really quickly. I didn’t expect to walk in to bat here and get a hundred. I hadn’t batted in a while. It feels great. Every time I come here it feels special. I don’t know there is some energy in his ground that keeps me going,” Ashwin said.
“Do you think this energy added anything to your energy,” Prithi asked.
She kept complaining that I didn’t see her on the first day. I didn’t. For me, It’s very difficult for me to look out for the family when I am playing. In the middle of the game, but I do make a conscious effort because the children are always asking me, ‘Why didn’t you say hi’,” Ashwin said jokily.
“I would like to defend myself here. I don’t always say hi. When you sit in the seat for 9 to 5 and all I see is Raj waving back at me like I have made up the two days.”
“But congratulations. A second hundred and a fifer at Chennai. The kids are here they really had a good time. A perfect Sunday morning, it has been a decent weather,” Prithi added.
Ashwin thanked his wife for bringing him good luck and being there for him.
“Thankyou for being there and bringing me good luck,” Ashwin concluded.
