Real Madrid Legend Marcelo Returns ‘Home’ To Club

Real Madrid icon Marcelo has returned to the club for a visit as shown in a series of official social media posts including a short video uploaded to X on Monday afternoon.

Marcelo originally joined Los Blancos as a unknown 18-year-old from Fluminense primed to succeed compatriot left back legend Roberto Carlos.

He did this sooner than expected, and went on to become the Spanish giants’ most successful player of all time in terms of silverware through a trophy haul of 25 unmatched by even the likes of Alfredo Di Stefano, Raul Gonzalez, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Shortly after the last of those conquests, a Champions League final win over Liverpool in 2022, Marcelo announced that he would be leaving Madrid after a 15-year tenure.

He enjoyed a short stint in Greece at Olympiacos, before then going back to the motherland and where it all started at Fluminense.

A born winner, Marcelo has again been steeped in eternal glory by helping the Cariocas from Rio to a maiden Copa Libertadores crown.

Beating Manchester City in the Club World Cup proved a bridge too far, but Marcelo is now enjoying the South American off-season and some much-deserved time off.

This has taken him back across the water to the Old Continent, and as Real Madrid demonstrated in a series of social media posts, he has paid a well-received visit to the club’s training ground.

‘Hello, Madridistas! How wonderful, the sun is out and I’m here in Valdebebas to say hello to my boys who are here,” Marcelo explains a video clip.

“[It give me] happiness to be back at my home. Hala Madrid!” he adds, before giving a peace sign and signing off.

Other media shared by Real Madrid shows the Brazilian embracing Antonio Rudiger, Luka Modric and Vinicius Jr.

With all the injuries head coach Carlo Ancelotti has across his squad as of late, it is not foolish to think that the Italian could do with the 35-year-old in his squad despite his advanced years.

Modric has long passed that mid-30’s milestone after all, while Toni Kroos isn’t too far off himself.

Just like Marcelo was however, the pair are gradually being phased out of the starting line up and see their playing time reduced as the next generation led by the likes of Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga takes more prominence.
