Robert Irwin announces new family tragedy with death of pet chicken Nacho: ‘Very sad news’

Robert Irwin has taken to Instagram to announce that a beloved family member has died.

The Irwins have said goodbye to their pet chicken Nacho, who was well-known to followers of the Irwin family.

Irwin, 20, shared the news with a video message to his Instagram account on Monday evening.

“Hi guys, very sad news to report. Unfortunately, our gorgeous little chicken Nacho, who I know you all fell in love with, and we love so much, sadly passed away,” he said.

“She was a beautiful old chook who lived a lot of great years and we’re really really really really sad to lose her.”

He went on to share more positive news, that the family has adopted two ‘’new members of the Irwin chicken family” they have named Waffles and Mochi.

Irwin said Waffles was “the confident one,” while Mochi “is a little bit more mild-mannered”.

He captioned the video, “Welcome to the family ❤️”.

Fans were quick to send their condolences to the family.

“I’m sorry to hear my brother ❤,” one commenter said.

“Not nacho😢 RIP baby girl❤️,” a second said.

“Sorry to hear my brother I am thinking of you my bro,” added a third.

Meanwhile, others congratulated Irwin on the two new additions.

“Waffles and Mochi are adorable, and I also love their fluffy feet! 🥰” one said.

“Sorry for the loss of Nacho @robertirwinphotography hope the new arrivals bring you as much joy,” another user said.

This is not the first time the Irwins have taken to Instagram to share the loss of one of their beloved pets.

Most notably in 2022 the family farewelled their “beautiful family member of 38 years,” their pet echidna.

“The sweetest, kindest, most wonderful echidna you ever did meet. Rest In Peace, angel 🤍,” Irwin’s sister Bindi wrote on Instagram at the time.
