Robert Irwin shares new video with fans amid relationship heartbreak

For Robert Irwin, there seems to be one surefire way to get over heartbreak — and that’s to spend time around animals.

After shock news emerged over the weekend that he had split with girlfriend Rorie Buckey, the new-generation Wildlife Warrior was straight back to business, posting a video about Australia Zoo’s famous alligator, Daisy.

Daisy is something of a grande old dame at Australia Zoo — she’s been around since Steve Irwin’s day.

The video Robert Irwin shared with his fans poignantly compared him feeding Daisy with old footage of Steve doing the same thing.

“Daisy then and now ❤️,” the video was captioned.

In the first part of the video, Robert dangles food in front of Daisy, who emerges from the water to take a gulp.

The footage then switches to Steve introducing viewers to Daisy when she was younger.

“Now, this girl’s name is Daisy, and she’s the naughtiest alligator that we’ve got,” Steve says.

It then switches back and forth between the two — Robert giving her a pat on the tail, Steve talking about her powerful tail.

Fans loved the now-and-then footage.

“This gator must have known him since he was a baby then, that’s Aunty Daisy,” one fan wrote.

“You look exactly like your father and act just as kind as him ✨🐊,” another said.

“This splicing of you and your dad, then/now is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever watched,” wrote a third.

The new video comes just days after Robert Irwin and Rorie Buckey announced they were splitting up.

In a joint statement posted to Buckey’s Instagram stories, the young couple said they wished each other well for the future.

“We wanted to share that we have decided to go our separate ways but profoundly appreciate all of the time spent together and wish one another all the very best into the future,” the pair said.

“We wish to express the gratitude and respect we have for one another as we continue our journeys on different paths.

“We won’t be commenting further on this and really appreciate your respect and privacy at this time.”

Irwin, 20, first met Buckey, 19, the niece of late Australian actor Heath Ledger, sometime in 2022 but the couple did not publicly debut their relationship until July 2023.

It’s not entirely clear how Buckey, whose family is based in Perth, first met Irwin, who is based with his family in Queensland.

The couple often shared pictures of each other on social media, with Buckey also starring in some of Irwin’s viral TikToks.

But now, Irwin has wiped all photographs and videos of Buckey from his feed, and Buckey switched her Instagram settings to private.

However, the pair continue to follow each other on Instagram.

Late last year, Buckey announced that she was joining Australia Zoo, changing her Instagram bio to describe herself as a “Wildlife Warrior”.

It’s not clear if Buckey will continue in her Australia Zoo role, but she has removed the phrase “Wildlife Warrior” from her Instagram bio.

The split came as some surprise for fans of the duo, with the announcement seemingly coming out of nowhere.

The pair had been posting loved-up photographs of one another until as recently as January, when they were spotted at the Australian Open tennis in Melbourne.
