New Delhi: Rohit Sharma survived an injury scare on Thursday against Punjab Kings in IPL 2024 at the PCA Stadium in Mullanpur after the former Mumbai Indians captain got hit by a Sam Curran delivery. The incident took place in the 12th over of the Mumbai Indians innings when the Curran bowled a slower delivery which Rohit wanted to paddle towards backward of square. However, the ball got a top edge and ricocheted onto the helmet.

But unlike the previous game, Rohit failed to light up the Mullanpur sky as he was caught by Harpreet Brar on the next ball for a 25-ball 36. Trying to slice the delivery to backward point, Rohit instead gave a good low catch to Brar.
Playing his 250th IPL game for Mumbai Indians, Rohit held one end Suryakumar Yadav toiled with opposition bowlers at will. Suryakumar found his rhythm after a slow start to finish with 78 off 53 balls whereas left-handed Varma hit some lusty blows on the leg side to make 34 off a mere 18 balls. Towards the end, Tim David blasted a seven-ball 14 to provide the visitors with late impetus as they posted 192/7 in 20 overs.
On a typically low and slow surface here, MI batters struggled for timing yet garnered the highest total so far at IPL’s newest venue. Rohit and Suryakumar teamed up to make the most of the powerplay as Mumbai Indians reached 54/1 at the end of it.
Even though he did not get enough strike for the duration of his innings, Rohit looked in prime form to remain ahead of his aggressive partner Suryakumar in terms of strike-rate. Rohit also brought up his 6,500 runs in the competition.
