Rolling Stones now equal with The Beatles after incredible achievement | Music | Entertainment

The Rolling Stones and The Beatles have had a healthy rivalry since the early 1960s, but the Fab Four have always come out on top in terms of sales.

Nevertheless, the two iconic rock bands are now drawing after an amazing achievement by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood this week.

The Rolling Stones released their 24th British studio album and first in 18 years, Hackney Diamonds.

The critically acclaimed new record marks the band’s 14th official No 1 album after garnering 72,200 chart units, making it the third highest-selling album of 2023 so far.

On top of that, the Rolling Stones now have 11 studio albums that have hit the top spot in the UK album chart.

This means the Rolling Stones are now tied equally with The Beatles, Robbie Williams and Bruce Springsteen, who have all had 11 studio albums to hit No 1 in the UK’s Official Album Chart.

Interestingly, Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney features on Hackney Diamonds, playing the bass guitar on Bite My Head Off.

The record also includes Sir Elton John, Stevie Wonder, former Rolling Stone bassist Bill Wyman and late drummer Charlie Watts on a couple of tracks.

Additionally, Lady Gaga features on the track Sweet Sounds of Heaven, which she performed live with Mick Jagger at the album launch in New York City last week.

Hackney Diamonds is out now and here’s hoping the Rolling Stones tour the new album next year.
