MANILA, Philippines—Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has only been gone from TNT’s playing rotation for a year but a lot has changed in the Tropang Giga’s title defense of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

One of those changes, of course, is the inclusion of the four-point line in the league.

Like everyone else, Hollis-Jefferson had the same reaction upon hearing the news.

“I texted Jolas (Jojo Lastimosa) when I heard about it. I asked, ‘is this real?’” said RHJ in jest after TNT’s 101-95 win over Northport at Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday.

But that curiosity doesn’t necessarily equate to shock.

After all, Hollis-Jefferson seemed to be his usual all-around self, finishing with 32 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocks in his return game with Tropang Giga.

“I think it’s interesting, I think it adds a different dynamic to the game and a challenge. We got guys like (Arvin) Tolentino shooting from back there so you have to be able to guard him in that range,” he said.

Hollis-Jefferson and the Tropang Giga felt Tolentino’s wrath from the four-point area as he sank one during the final seconds of the game, almost giving the Batang Pier a chance to come back.

However, clutch free throws from Hollis-Jefferson kept Northport at bay to bring TNT’s import-laden conference title defense on a rousing start.
