Russell Brand accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse in Channel 4 investigation

The comedian and broadcaster Russell Brand has been accused of rape and sexual assault by four women at the height of his fame.

A joint investigation by the Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches heard claims from several women – one of whom was 16 at the time of the alleged incidents – about Brand’s conduct between 2006 and 2013.

They included accusations of controlling behaviour and emotional abuse alongside predatory behaviour.

The former TV and radio presenter strenuously denies all allegations, stating all his relationships have been “consensual”.

The 48-year-old released a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, and his YouTube channel, stating that he “absolutely refuted” the “litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks”.

He claimed to be a victim of a “co-ordinated attack,” adding: “These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies, and as I’ve written about extensively in my books I was very, very promiscuous.

“Now during that time of promiscuity the relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual.”

Russell Brand: In Plain Sight airs on Saturday at 9pm on Channel 4.
