Photography accessory and equipment company Sandmarc has announced a new Telephoto 6x lens for iPhone.
Compared to the iPhone’s native telephoto camera, the Telephoto 6x optical zoom lens promises sharper images and superior low-light performance.
“Users will be amazed at the superior performance of their 48MP camera on the iPhone 15 Pro/iPhone 14 Pro or their main camera sensor on previous iPhone models, when paired with the Telephoto 6x Lens,” Sandmarc promises.
The 6x Telephoto lens includes an adjustable focus wheel, enabling manual focus control. The lens can focus from 16 feet (4.9 meters) to infinity and has a 17-degree field of view.
The lens is compatible with “all iPhone models” if users have the required Sandmarc case. Each 6x Telephoto lens ships with a case for a selected iPhone model.
While Sandmarc promises high-quality bokeh, the company doesn’t disclose the aperture of the telephoto lens.
This is far from Sandmarc’s first foray into external lenses for iPhone. Last May, the company released a 100mm macro lens and a 40x microscope lens.
In 2022, Sandmarc released a 58mm telephoto lens, which was a revised version of a previous mobile telephoto lens. In the case of 2022’s 58mm telephoto lens, it was significantly shorter than the new 6x Telephoto — which isn’t all that surprising given that it is a 2x lens rather than a 6x one.
Sandmarc also offers anamorphic, fisheye, and wide-angle lenses for iPhone. The company’s complete iPhone lens catalog is available on Sandmarc’s website.
The Sandmarc 6x Telephoto lens ships with a case for a compatible iPhone model, with options ranging from the newest iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models back to the iPhone 12 family of smartphones. In each instance, the case and lens are $160.
For users who already have a Sandmarc case for their phone, the lens is available separately for $145.
The new 6x Telephoto lens is expected to begin shipping in mid-March.
Sandmarc notes that users must enable Macro Control to utilize the lens, given that it has a manual focus ring. A step-by-step explainer video for this is featured above.
Sandmarc recommends using the lens with an iPhone’s primary camera to achieve optimal results. However, the lens is compatible with telephoto cameras, such as the 3x and 5x zoom lenses on the latest iPhone 15 Pro models. To use the 6x lens with a telephoto camera, Sandmarc recommends the use of a tripod.
