New Delhi: The summers have just begun but it doesn’t seem like it, as it is just April and the temperatures have been rising in an alarming manner. Heatwave conditions are being experienced in not only the northern states but also in West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka and Jharkhand among others. While the Odisha government has declared an early summer vacation for the schools, the Jharkhand government has announced change in the school timings because the temperature across the state has crossed 40 degree Celsius. Jharkhand School Timings Changed From Monday
As mentioned earlier, amidst heat wave-like conditions prevailing across Jharkhand, the state government has announced a change in school timings from April 22 until further notice, an official said on Saturday. This adjustment applies to all categories of government, non-government-aided, unaided, and private schools in the state.
New Timings For Schools In Jharkhand
Under the new schedule, students from kindergarten to class 8 will attend schools from 7 am to 11.30 am, while senior pupils from class 9 to 12 will continue classes till noon, an order by the education department said. The order explicitly prohibits prayer meetings or sports activities conducted under the sun during this period, although mid-day meals will continue to be served. Additionally, a separate decision will be made and communicated regarding compensation for any educational losses incurred during this period. “Prayer meetings and sports will not be held under the sun during this period, but mid-day meals will continue,” the order said.
Schools Closed In West Bengal Earlier Than Usual
In another news, seeing the rising temperatures and how the weather is going to be, in the coming days, the government of West Bengal has announced an early summer vacation for the state schools. The summer holidays which were going to begin on May 5, will now begin from April 22, 2024. The government order as quoted in a Hindustan Times report says, “…summer vacation in schools…with effect from April 22 except for the schools of the hill areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, where in existing academic scheduled may continue until further order.”
