Parisian womenswear label Sézane is stepping up the pace of its retail expansion, opening a number of new addresses. This autumn, the label founded in 2013 by Morgane Sézalory has opened a new ‘apartment’ (as its stores are styled) in Lyon, France, a pop-up store in the German city of Hamburg, and will soon inaugurate a second boutique in London.

Sézane was set up as a bold, affordable luxury DNVB, and has acquired quite a taste for physical retail too. In spring, it inaugurated an eagerly awaited store in rue des Blancs Manteaux, in Paris’s chic Marais district, and has recently set up shop in Lyon, putting centre stage a collection of snug, vibrantly coloured knitwear.

The Lyon store, located at 31 rue du Président Edouard Herriot, on a small peninsula facing the Saint-Nizier church, opened on October 2, and is Sézane’s first in the French city. It showcases the label’s ready-to-wear, its leather goods line (including the popular ‘Victor’ handbag, dropped in a revamped version this autumn) and a few exclusive items.

Sézane currently operates five stores in Paris, and is also available at Le Bon Marché department store. It has ‘apartments’ in the French cities of Bordeaux, Aix-en-Provence and Lille, where it carved out a space for its sibling menswear label Octobre Editions, which is also present in Paris with a store on rue Saint Fiacre and a concession at Le Bon Marché. Octobre Editions, spearheaded by Arthur Person, was founded seven years ago and, for its anniversary earlier this month, it featured as a guest on Sézane’s website, gaining additional exposure besides launching two capsule collections, with Hôtel Rochechouart, a Parisian boutique hotel, and Brittany-based label Le Minor. The latter collections are chiefly commercialised in France for the time being.

International presence

After testing the market with pop-up stores in Amsterdam, Brussels and Vienna, Sézane continues to expand internationally. On October 6, it opened its first temporary address in Germany, a 159 square-metre store located at 23 Poststraße in Hamburg. The store will remain active until February 3 2024, showcasing the Parisian label’s 1970s inspired, brightly coloured womenswear.

Sézane’s international retail presence includes an address in London, ‘apartments’ in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, and pop-up stores in Seattle (opened in September, until the end of 2023) and Boston (active since this summer).

Sézane, which has been present in London since September 2018 in the Notting Hill district with a charming boutique located at 233 Westbourne Grove, is moving into a new premium location. On Friday November 3, the label is opening a new space, a corner boutique at 28-29 Marylebone High Street.

In this posh central area of London, Sézane will showcase its womenswear collections as well as the menswear range by Octobre Editions, and several items exclusively developed for the UK market.
