Star Sports has come under the scanner quite a few times in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
New Delhi: ‘SHAME ON STAR SPORTS’ started trending on social media after India captain Rohit Sharma lashed out at the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) official broadcasters for breaching his privacy. Taking to social media platform ‘X’ Rohit on Sunday, stated that despite his request, Star Sports went ahead to record him and played it on-air which directly speaks about privacy breach.
“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days,” Rohit said in his post.
“Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket. Let better sense prevail,” he added.

Soon after his post, netizens started bashing Star Sports, calling it a PR channel for a few cricketers. The video Rohit refereed to was taken when he was talking to his Mumbai Ranji Trophy teammate Dhawal Kulkarni before Mumbai Indians’ final IPL 2024 game against Lucknow Super Giants.
In the video, Rohit requested the cameraman to not record his audio. But Star Sports went ahead and even aired it on television. “Bhai audio bandh karo, Kasamse, ek audio ne mera waat laga dia (Bro, don’t record the audio. One such audio screwed me),” Rohit was heard as saying in the video.
Before this incident, Rohit was in a middle of controversy when his conversation with Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach and former Mumbai teammate Abhishek Nayar went viral on social media. The video was shared by KKR social media team and was later forced to take it down.
