Pune News: A new flyover-cum-subway will come up at the Shashtrinagar Chowk in Pune in a bid to ease traffic congestion in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation has announced. As per the proposal, the Shastrinagar Chowk subway will have six lanes, with three lanes each designated for travelling to and from Kharadi, while the flyover will from Kharadi and Vimannagar to the Golf Club in Pune.
NCP MLA Sunil Tingre noted that traffic has increased exponentially on the Ahmednagar Road, a vital lifeline connecting Pune city to Maharashtra’s northern regions– due to rampant urbanisation with the setting of commercial properties and IT parks in the area.
Tingre said the project was delayed as the Archaeological Department did not grant the necessary clearance until May this year.
Notably, the Pune Municipal Corporation, had started the construction work on a flyover and grade separator at Ambedkar Junction on Alandi Road, within the Vadgaonsheri assembly area.
According to officials, the Mukundrao Ambedkar Junction flyover, which is being built at an approximate cost of Rs 110 crore, will feature a two-lane, unidirectional flyover and a two-lane, unidirectional grade separator. The flyover is being constructed on on Alandi Road in Vishrantwadi, they said.
